Journie to the New Wind

-Logline-

A BOY RACES AGAINST TIME AND DEATH IN A FANTASY QUEST TO SAVE HIS TWIN SISTER FROM CANCER.

Concept

Josiah is a young artist using his creativity to cope with his twin sister, Journie’s cancer. He creates a fantasy world where an evil witch curses Journie with the mark of Hevel, a hooded specter who hunts marked souls. The two twins along with their older sister, Galana, set out on a quest to find Ophid, a witch doctor who may be able to help. Their only other option is for Journie to escape to the Kingdom of the New Wind, but if she enters the kingdom, she must go alone and never return home. Will Ophid have a cure, will Journie have to flee to the Kingdom of the New Wind, or will she become Hevel’s next victim?

This epic adventure is a direct allegory to the siblings’ experience with Journie’s illness. Josiah draws characters and orates the story to his sister. Not only is it an outlet for him, but it is also a gift to her.

Theme

This fantasy drama explores tragedy and grief and offers an uplifting, albeit sober, message of hope.

Impact

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children. Beyond physical illness, mental illness and mental fragility are increasing among the youth of our day. We need to help them cope with the brutal realities of our world while offering a healthy, positive perspective on life. Journie to the New Wind frames the awful truth of terminal illness in faith and love. We may have to say goodbye, but goodbye does not have to be forever.
